Trauma and ptsd Counseling

"Owning your story is the bravest thing you can ever do." Brené Brown

When we go through a trauma in our lives it is easy for emotions, body sensations and negative thoughts to get stuck and cause us more trauma in our current relationships and experiences and prevent us from leading our best lives.  Using EMDR therapy, We have been able to help people who feel stuck to get to a place of growth, renewal, freedom and reach the "okie doke" life.

What is EMDR therapy and how can it help with Trauma and PTSD?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a one-on-one form of psychotherapy that is designed to reduce trauma-related stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and to improve overall mental health functioning. Treatment is provided by an EMDR trained therapist, who first reviews the client’s history and assesses the client’s readiness for EMDR.

What problems are helped by EMDR?

The studies to date show EMDR has a high degree of effectiveness in relieving the symptoms that occur after the following experiences:

  • Physical abuse

  • Sexual abuse

  • Childhood abuse

  • Childhood trauma

  • Post-traumatic stress

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Loss of a loved one

  • Injury of a loved one

  • Car accident

  • Fire

  • Work accident

  • Assault

  • Robbery

  • Rape

  • Natural disaster

  • Injury

  • Illness

  • Witness to violence

  • Victims of violent crimes

  • Performance and test anxiety

  • Phobias and overwhelming fears

  • Low self-esteem

  • Relationship problems

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Birth trauma

Repeated studies show that by using EMDR people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference in a shorter amount of time. EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment protocol. The number of sessions varies with the complexity of the trauma being treated.

The research shows that EMDR is now recognized as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization and the Department of Defense.

In successful EMDR therapy, the meaning of painful events is transformed on an emotional level. The net effect is that clients conclude feeling empowered and renewed by the very experiences that once held them back. Their wounds have not just healed, they have transformed. As a natural outcome of the EMDR therapeutic process, the clients’ thoughts, feelings and behavior change to more positive, less distressing thoughts and feelings. The end result is growth and the removal of walls that kept them from leading their best life.  Please watch the short video below that give testimonial to the power of EMDR.
